Repeats every year

Traditional New Year festival of the Guin-Mina people, held at Glidji-Kpodji near Aného for more than three and a half centuries (one source dates the rite to 1663). The highlight is the "taking of the sacred stone": its colour foretells the coming year (white: peace and prosperity; sky blue: abundant crops; red: a difficult year). In 2026 the 363rd edition took place on Thursday 3 September and the stone was white. The date of each edition is announced by the traditional authorities: the date shown is indicative.
