The Guin kingdom of Glidji
Glidji, the spiritual centre of the Guin people, a few kilometres north of Aného.

Glidji, about 4 km north of Aného, is presented as the spiritual centre of the Guin people. According to the account written in 1934 by King Agbanon II, migrants from Accra founded a kingdom there in the late 17th century, attributed to Foli Bebe; founding dates vary between sources (1680s, around 1700…).
Agbanon II reigned from 1929 to 1972 and wrote, at the request of the French colonial administration, the History of Petit-Popo and the Guin kingdom, considered the first book about a region of Togo written by a Togolese (see Bibliography). The Epe Ekpe festival, the Guin New Year, takes place every year at Glidji-Kpodji.
